ByLT Visual Identity

Formerly Taylor Communications, ByLT needed a new visual identity for a family-owned telecommunications business. The client wanted the logo to feel mature and trustworthy while still feeling cool, modern and vibrant enough to support a new business name.

The design challenge was to make the distinctive ByLT name feel intentional. The “LT” carried personal meaning through Lance Taylor’s initials and created a subtle “by LT” reading, while the lowercase “y” needed to work visually among the uppercase letters. The final identity used a custom wordmark, connection-inspired details and a practical logo system to support the tagline “Built to Connect.”

Formerly Taylor Communications, the family-owned telecommunications business needed a visual identity that could support a new business name and a more polished market presence. Because the company did not have a previous logo, the project needed to establish a strong first impression from the ground up.

The name ByLT carried a personal story. “LT” referenced Lance Taylor’s initials and created a subtle “by LT” reading, connecting the brand to the family behind the business. This made the capitalization meaningful, but it also created a visual challenge: the logo needed to make the lowercase “y” feel intentional among the capital letters while still looking mature, trustworthy and modern.

At the same time, the identity needed to communicate telecommunications and connection without relying on obvious or generic industry symbols.

The final direction focused on a modern but established wordmark that made the name feel intentional and ownable.

Because “LT” carried personal meaning, the design preserved the uppercase letters while using the lowercase “y” as a distinctive visual feature. Rather than hiding the unusual capitalization, the wordmark leaned into it, using the “y” to add movement, personality and a stronger sense of connection.

The “B” mark introduced a subtle communication detail through a speech-bubble-like form and orange dot pattern, giving the logo a telecom-related cue without making the identity feel generic or overly literal. The result was a visual system that connected the family story, telecommunications focus and “Built to Connect” tagline into one cohesive mark.

Logo System <-?

The final identity included a primary ByLT wordmark with the tagline “Built to Connect,” along with secondary logo options built around the “B” mark. These secondary marks gave the client flexible options for smaller spaces, social media, favicon use and applications where the full wordmark would not reproduce as clearly.

The system balanced personality and practicality: the full wordmark established the new name, while the “B” mark created a compact brand anchor that still carried the connection detail from the primary logo.

Outcomes and Client Value

The final identity gave ByLT a polished first logo system for launching its new business name across web, social media and marketing materials.

The client feedback showed that the logo achieved the intended tone: modern, vibrant and exciting while still serving as a strong first identity for the company. The testimonial also reinforced the value of the process itself, especially clear communication, steady progress updates, openness to feedback and design guidance when a requested change might not work visually.

This is important to highlight because the outcome was not only a finished logo. The client left the process with confidence in the mark, clarity on how to use it and usable assets for future business needs.

Client Testimonial

“La’Bria was very easy to work with and talk with as we progressed through our logo design. She was very clear about where things stood and kept me updated on progress throughout the design. She took feedback about changes I wanted to see well and pushed back when she thought an idea I had would not work well visually. I respect a designer who will take feedback well, but will also be honest when changes you want to make may not look the best in the end. I was happy with our logo and am eager to incorporate it into our website and marketing materials.”

What Made This Project Distinctive

The lowercase “y” became a defining feature of the wordmark, helping the name feel intentional, ownable and memorable.

The “LT” created a subtle family and founder connection, giving the name meaning beyond visual style.

The logo referenced communication and connection without relying on generic telecom symbols.

The process balanced client feedback with design judgment, allowing the mark to improve through collaboration while maintaining visual integrity.

The final package gave the client more than a logo file. It provided a usable identity system with secondary marks, social assets, favicon options and simple usage guidance.

Lasting Impact and Future Use

The ByLT visual identity gave the company a flexible foundation for launching its new business name across website, social media and marketing materials.

The project demonstrated the value of a focused identity process: even with a logo-centered scope, the client received a cohesive visual system, practical usage guidance and organized assets that could support future growth.

For the portfolio, this project should show both design craft and client management. It is a strong complement to the larger UT strategy case studies because it demonstrates freelance process, visual identity thinking and the ability to translate client feedback into a polished brand mark.
